THE KNEE
The knee joint is a complex structure that we ask a lot of and is susceptible to injury at any point. Degenerative changes to the knee are common as it’s prone to wear and tear over time, but many younger patients present with knee problems. The knee is often put under stress, particularly during sport, whether played at professional or amateur level, where it is required to rotate, twist and pivot, as well as bending and extending.
The knee joint is composed of two ligaments in the centre, known as the Anterior Cruciate Ligament and Posterior Cruciate Ligament and two ligaments on the side, the Medial Collateral and Lateral Collateral ligaments. There are also two cartilage rings, known as the medial and lateral menisci.
